NAIS: MarketView

It can be difficult and expensive for independent schools to identify prospective families for their school, often requiring outside consultation and a large budget. The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) needed a solution that would bring all of that data directly to their members. DockYard was tasked with designing and building an efficient and powerful experience for a broad demographic of users. As Director of Design, I led our product design team to design and build a tool for NAIS’s users that would cut down on the time and skillset required to produce a data-driven enrollment strategy.

1. Understanding the Problem

NAIS conducted a round of foundational research that highlighted the problem they were attempting to solve. We were able to quickly ingest and synthesize that research and develop a prototype to validate the original set of hypotheses.

The interface was designed to be clear and straightforward, getting weekly feedback loops from users throughout our design and development process.

2. Designing the Solution

In the past, NAIS members would have had to spend tens of thousands of dollars hiring consultants and data scientists to gather the insights needed to inform their school’s enrollment strategy. With MarketView, it wold now be possible to compile complex census data, filter it and visualize the data on a map within seconds. Once the member felt they were telling a compelling story, they had the ability to save and share it with colleagues. We optimized the layout fort accessibility, ease-of-use (for even the least tech savvy users), and performance.

3. The Results

Using the data discovered in the MarketView product, NAIS memers are now empowered to create and share actionable reports, shortening the time, effort and financial strain of identifying prospective students.
